Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 340°F (170°C) and line an 8-inch square pan.
- In a mixing bowl, whip the egg whites until stiff peaks form.
- In another bowl, beat the egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.
- Stir in the melted butter and vanilla extract.
- Gently mix in the sifted flour until just incorporated.
- Gradually add the lukewarm milk, stirring until smooth.
- Carefully fold in the stiff egg whites.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared pan.
Cooking
- Bake for 35 to 60 minutes, until the top is golden.
- Allow the cake to cool completely and then dust with icing sugar.
Notes
This cake can be served with a dollop of whipped cream, vanilla ice cream, or fresh berries. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 3-4 days.
