Preparation
- Zest your orange and sift the confectioners’ sugar through a fine mesh strainer.
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the softened cream cheese and butter. Stir until smooth (1-2 minutes).
- Add the orange extract and fresh orange zest, mixing until fully combined.
- If desired, add 1-2 drops of orange gel coloring and mix until uniform.
- Gradually add the sifted confectioners’ sugar in three additions, mixing until a thick, moldable dough forms.
Shaping
- Roll the dough into 1/2-inch balls and arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Gently flatten each ball with the back of a fork.
- Refrigerate for 1 hour to firm up the mints.
Serving and Storage
- Serve on a beautiful platter, optionally topping with a sprinkle of orange zest.
- Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Notes
Do not rush the cooling process; this helps maintain the shape. You can adjust the amount of orange extract to taste. For added indulgence, consider dipping in white chocolate.
