Ingredients
  

For the donut dough
  • 1 cup warm milk Make sure the milk is warm, not hot.
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar Split into two portions.
  • 2.5 cups all purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg, at room temperature
For the cheesecake filling
  • 1 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 0.5 cup powdered sugar For filling.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 cup strawberry jam For swirls.
For the glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)
For frying
  • 3-4 cups vegetable oil For frying donuts.

Method
 

Dough Preparation
  1. Combine warm milk, yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a small bowl. Let sit for 5 to 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and remaining 1 tablespoon of sugar.
  3. Add the foamy yeast mixture, melted butter, and egg. Mix until a shaggy dough forms.
  4. Turn dough onto a floured surface and knead for 8 to 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1 to 1.5 hours, or until doubled.
Donut Formation
  1. Punch down dough, roll to 1/2 inch thickness, and cut into donuts.
  2. Let rest for another 20 to 30 minutes.
Frying
  1. Heat vegetable oil to 350 to 360 degrees F (175 to 180 degrees C) and fry donuts for 1.5 to 2 minutes per side until golden brown.
Filling and Glazing
  1. Beat softened cream cheese, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and 1 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Gently fold in strawberry jam for swirls.
  3. Whisk together 1 cup powdered sugar, 2 tablespoons milk, and 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract until smooth and pourable.
  4. Inject cheesecake filling into slightly warm donuts.
  5. Dip tops in glaze or drizzle. Let glaze set for 15 to 20 minutes before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with coffee or milk. For variations, swap filling or finish with cinnamon sugar. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
