Wet Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Coloring and Topping
  • Food coloring (orange, black, purple) Be generous to achieve vibrant colors.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until a cohesive dough forms.
  6. Divide the dough into three equal parts and color each with food coloring.
  7. Roll each colored dough into logs and flatten into rectangles.
  8. Stack the rectangles, roll into a log, and chill in the refrigerator for about an hour.
Baking
  1. Once firm, slice the log into cookies and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  2. Sprinkle with additional sugar if desired.
  3. Bake for 10-12 minutes until the edges are lightly golden.
  4. Allow the cookies to cool on a wire rack.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container for up to a week. Use parchment to layer between cookies to preserve colors.
