Cookie Dough Ingredients
  • 2 ¾ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 bottle Orange and black gel food coloring
  • 1 cup Halloween-themed sprinkles (optional)
Materials Needed
  • Parchment paper or plastic wrap, for rolling

Method

Preparation
  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add the egg and vanilla extract, mixing until well combined.
  4. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.
  5. Divide the dough into two portions and tint one half with orange and the other with black gel food coloring.
  6. Knead each portion separately until the colors are vibrant.
Rolling and Chilling
  1. Roll out each portion between two sheets of parchment paper into rectangles about ¼ inch thick.
  2. Stack one rectangle on top of the other and gently press down.
  3. Roll the dough tightly from one short end to create a log.
  4. Wrap the log in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Slice the chilled log into ¼-inch thick rounds and arrange them on the baking sheets.
  3. Press a few Halloween sprinkles onto the tops of the cookies, if desired.
  4. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes or until the edges are set but not browned.
  5. Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack.
