  • 2 cans green beans or 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 cup milk can be low-fat for a healthier option
  • 1 cup French fried onions
Seasonings
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • to taste salt
  • to taste pepper

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the cream of mushroom soup and milk.
  3. Stir in garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add the green beans to the mixture and stir until well combined.
Baking
  1. Transfer the mixture to a baking dish and bake for 25 minutes.
  2. Remove from the oven, stir in half of the French fried onions, and return to the oven for another 5 minutes.
  3. Top with remaining French fried onions and bake for an additional 10 minutes, or until golden brown.
Serving
  1. Serve hot as a side dish, paired with roasted meats or comforting starches like rice or mashed potatoes.

Notes

If using fresh green beans, blanch them before adding to the casserole for a brighter color and fresh taste. Adjust the seasoning to your liking. A pinch of cayenne can add a nice kick! For a healthier option, try using low-fat cream of mushroom soup or milk. You can add cooked bacon bits or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor, or include shredded cheese on top for a cheesy twist. Can be made a day in advance without the onions.
