Ingredients

Main Ingredients
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 cup barbecue sauce (Sweet Baby Ray’s Sweet and Spicy recommended)
  • 6 slices Texas Toast garlic bread Can substitute with any hearty bread
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese Other cheese options like pepper jack can be used for spice

Method

Preparation
  1. Dice the onion into small pieces.
  2. In a large skillet, cook the onion and ground beef (or turkey/chicken) over medium-high heat until browned and the onion is soft, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess grease.
  3. Add the barbecue sauce to the skillet and stir to coat the meat evenly.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with foil.
  2. Place the frozen garlic bread on the sheet and bake for 5-8 minutes until lightly toasted.
  3. Remove the garlic bread from the oven. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto each slice and top with shredded cheddar cheese.
  4. Return to the oven and bake until the cheese is melted, about 2-3 minutes.
  5. Serve immediately.

Notes

Feel free to customize your Sloppy Joe mixture. Add chopped bell pepper or hot sauce for extra heat. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator and reheat in the oven.
