  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar Can be reduced slightly for less sweetness.
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Food coloring (red, blue, green, yellow, etc.) Gel food coloring provides more vibrance.

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, blend together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the egg and vanilla, stirring until well combined.
  4. Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough into sections and add food coloring to each portion, mixing well.
  6. Roll each colored dough between parchment paper into neat rectangles.
  7. Stack the rectangles and roll them tightly into a log shape.
  8. Chill the log in the refrigerator for 30 minutes.
Baking
  1. Slice the log into rounds and place them on a baking sheet.
  2. Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are golden.
  3. Let the cookies cool before serving.

Notes

For best results, use a sharp knife for slicing and store cookies in an airtight container. Freezing options are available for extended enjoyment.
