Preparation
- Preheat oven to 400F (200C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
- Add the cold, cubed butter and mix until the texture resembles coarse crumbs.
- Stir in the raisins until evenly distributed.
- In a small bowl, mix the milk and vanilla extract, then pour into the dry ingredients.
- Stir gently until a dough forms, being careful not to overmix.
- Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and pat it into a 1 inch thick round.
- Cut into 8 wedges and place scones on the prepared baking sheet.
- Brush tops with milk or beaten egg for a golden crust.
Baking
- Bake for 15 to 18 minutes or until golden brown.
- Let cool slightly before serving.
