Ingredients
  

For the Pie Crust
  • 1 ¼ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 3–4 tablespoons ice water
For the Chocolate Filling
  • 1 ¾ cups whole milk
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 3 large egg yolks, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
For the Whipped Cream
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons powdered sugar
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

Method
 

Preparation of Pie Crust
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.
  2. Cut in the cold, cubed butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  3. Gradually add the ice water, one tablespoon at a time, until the dough just comes together.
  4. Shape the dough into a disc, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes.
Preparation of Chocolate Filling
  1. In a saucepan, combine milk, sugar, cocoa powder, cornstarch, and salt.
  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring continuously until thickened.
  3. Remove from heat and stir in the beaten egg yolks, butter, and vanilla extract.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven and bake the pie crust according to package instructions or until golden.
  2. Pour the chocolate filling into the baked crust and let cool completely.
Serving
  1. Slice the pie and top with whipped cream. Optionally, dust with cocoa powder or chocolate shavings.

Notes

Store leftover pie covered in the fridge for up to three days. Let warm slightly at room temperature before serving.
