Method
Prepare the pie crust
- Prepare the pie crust according to the package directions.
Make the filling
- In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, cocoa powder, and sugar.
- Mix the egg yolks into the dry ingredients.
- Slowly add the milk in a steady stream, stirring continuously.
- Transfer the mixture into a medium saucepan over medium heat.
- Stir continuously until the mixture thickens into a custard.
- Remove from heat and fold in the vanilla extract.
Assemble the pie
- Pour the filling into the baked pie crust and smooth the surface.
- Cover and chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours.
Serve
- Serve with whipped cream or a dusting of cocoa powder.
