Ingredients
  

For the dough
  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure butter is at room temperature
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup strawberry puree Fresh or store-bought
  • as needed Red food coloring Optional, for vibrant pink hue

Preparation
  1. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2 to 3 minutes.
  2. Add the egg and vanilla extract, stirring gently until incorporated.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  4. Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  5. Divide the dough into three equal parts.
  6. Add cocoa powder to one part to create chocolate dough.
  7. Leave another part as vanilla dough.
  8. To the third part, mix in strawberry puree and food coloring, if using.
  9. Roll each dough into ¼-inch thick rectangles.
  10. Layer the strawberry dough over the vanilla, followed by the chocolate dough, pressing gently.
  11. Roll the layered dough tightly into a log and seal the ends.
  12. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least one hour.
Baking
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Slice the chilled log into ¼-inch rounds and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  3. Bake for 10–12 minutes until the edges are golden.
  4. Allow to cool briefly on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or freeze for longer shelf life. Variations include using other fruit purees or adding spices like cinnamon.
