Ingredients

For the Cake
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
For the Frosting
  • 1 cup softened butter
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 8 oz cream cheese (softened)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease three round cake pans or line with parchment paper.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  3. In another bowl, blend eggs, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Gradually add the wet mixture to the dry ingredients without overmixing.
  5. Divide the batter into three portions: mix melted chocolate into one portion, pureed strawberries into another, and leave the third as vanilla.
Baking
  1. Pour each flavored batter into its respective prepared pan.
  2. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
Frosting
  1. Frost between layers with cream cheese frosting; cover the entire cake once assembled.

Notes

Make sure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing. Use fresh strawberries or strawberry puree for the layer. Ensure the cakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting.
