Method
 

Preparation
  1. In a bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
  2. In another bowl, whisk the egg, milk, and vanilla extract until frothy.
  3. Combine the wet and dry ingredients until just mixed, leaving some lumps in the batter.
Cooking
  1. Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan to around 350°F.
  2. Use a funnel or squeeze bottle to dispense the batter into the hot oil in spiral shapes.
  3. Fry until golden brown, about 1-2 minutes on each side.
  4. Remove the cakes and drain on paper towels, then dust with powdered sugar.
