  • 2 tbsp seedless strawberry jam
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • as specified on package whole eggs
  • as specified on package water
  • 1/4 tsp red gel food coloring
  • as specified on package vegetable oil
For the frosting
  • 1 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 to 3 tbsp whole milk
  • 1 tsp seedless strawberry jam (for frosting)
  • as needed for frosting red gel food coloring
  • 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder (for frosting)

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and spray a 13×9 inch pan.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, water, vegetable oil, and eggs until smooth.
  3. Divide the batter in half. Add cocoa powder to one half for chocolate batter, and mix strawberry jam and red gel food coloring into the other half.
Baking
  1. Pour the plain batter into the greased pan. Drop spoonfuls of the chocolate and strawberry batters on top, then swirl together with a knife.
  2. Bake for about 28-30 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. Let cool completely on a wire rack.
Frosting
  1. In a bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy and light. Gradually mix in powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  2. Mix small portions of the frosting with cocoa for chocolate color and strawberry jam for a pink hue. Spread the vanilla frosting on the cooled cake and swirl the colored frostings on top.
Serving
  1. Slice the cake and serve with a warm smile. Store leftovers loosely covered at room temperature.

Notes

For an extra strawberry kick, add a layer of fresh strawberries on top before frosting. Experiment with marbling to create unique patterns. Use a cake carrier for transport to gatherings.
