Ingredients
  

Cookie Base
  • 1 cup unsalted butter Use room temperature for easy mixing.
  • 2 cups powdered sugar Do not substitute with granulated sugar for best results.
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Can replace with more almond extract if desired.
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract Substitute with peppermint or lemon extract for a different twist.
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
Coloring and Decoration
  • as needed purple gel food coloring Liquid food coloring not recommended.
  • as needed black gel food coloring
  • as needed purple sprinkles
  • as needed black or chocolate sprinkles

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Cream together the butter and powdered sugar in a large bowl until light and airy.
  2. Add the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and almond extract, mixing until well incorporated.
  3. Gradually mix in the flour and salt until the dough comes together.
  4. Divide the dough into two parts, kneading in purple gel food coloring to one part and black gel food coloring to the other.
Baking
  1. Roll each portion into a rectangular shape and layer them together.
  2. Tightly roll the layers into a log and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill for at least an hour.
  3. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Once chilled, slice the log into rounds.
  4. Place rounds on a parchment-lined baking sheet and sprinkle with purple and black sprinkles.
  5. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are golden.

Notes

Store in an airtight container for up to one week. For longer storage, freeze the cookies.
