- Bring the mixture to a boiling point and do not stir further.
Cooking
- Monitor the mixture with a candy thermometer and heat it to the hard crack stage (about 300°F).
- Remove from heat and stir in the flavor extract and a splash of food coloring.
- Pour the molten candy onto a greased baking sheet and spread it out.
- Allow it to cool completely before breaking it into pieces.
