Preparation
- In a bowl, combine 1/2 cup of warm milk, the active dry yeast, and 1 tablespoon of sugar. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, salt, and cinnamon.
- Add the eggs, melted butter, and vanilla extract, then pour in the foamy yeast mixture.
- Knead everything together for 8-10 minutes until the dough is soft and elastic.
- Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the dough rise for about 1-2 hours, until doubled in size.
Filling Preparation
- Mix the brown sugar, cinnamon, and softened butter into a paste.
Baking
- Roll the risen dough into a 10x20-inch rectangle and spread the filling across its surface.
- Roll the dough tightly into a log and shape it into a ring, sealing the edges.
- Transfer to a parchment-lined baking sheet and let rest for another 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
- Bake the cake for 25-30 minutes until golden brown.
- Allow to cool completely before decorating.
Decoration
- Mix together the powdered sugar, milk, and 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract to create a glaze.
- Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cake and sprinkle with sanding sugar.
- If desired, hide the baby figurine under the cake before serving.
Notes
Wrap tightly in plastic wrap or store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 4 days. For longer storage, freeze slices wrapped well for up to 2 months.
