Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 1 tablespoon Granulated Sugar This ingredient adds a hint of sweetness that balances the savory flavors.
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour The main structure for your dough.
  • 2 teaspoons Active Dry Yeast The secret to fluffy, risen dough.
  • 1 teaspoon Kosher Salt Enhances the overall flavor.
  • 4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter Adds a rich flavor to both the dough and topping.
  • 1 large Egg Yolk Binds the dough and enriches its flavor.
  • 1 cup Warm Water (110°F) Activates the yeast for the perfect dough texture.
Cheese Topping Ingredients
  • 2 cups Shredded Mozzarella Cheese The hero ingredient that gives these cheese sticks their texture.
  • 1/4 cup Grated Parmesan Cheese Adds a delightful sharpness and depth of flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Salt Infuses your sticks with a savory flavor.
Serving Sauce
  • 1 cup Marinara Sauce The classic accompaniment for these cheesy delights.

Method

Dough Preparation
  1. Combine warm water, sugar, and yeast in a large mixing bowl. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In another bowl, mix together the flour, salt, and melted butter. Add the egg yolk and the frothy yeast mixture. Stir until the dough starts to come together.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
Baking
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Mix the mozzarella, Parmesan, and garlic salt in a separate bowl.
  3. Once the dough is risen, punch it down and roll it out onto a greased baking sheet, forming a rectangle about ½ inch thick. Sprinkle the cheese mixture generously over the top.
  4. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown and bubbly.
  5. Remove from the oven and cut into strips.
  6. Serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

Best served fresh out of the oven. Can experiment with different cheeses or herbs for added flavors. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. Reheat in a preheated oven at 350°F until warmed through.
