Ingredients
  

Filling
  • 400 g ground beef
  • 1 large red bell pepper finely chopped
  • 1 onion finely chopped
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 150-200 g grated mozzarella
  • Spices to taste e.g., salt, pepper, paprika
  • 2-3 tablespoons ketchup
Pastry
  • 1 roll puff pastry to roll out

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 220 degrees Celsius.
  2. Finely chop the red bell pepper and onion.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with spices.
  4. Add 2 to 3 tablespoons of ketchup, chopped bell pepper, onion, and beaten egg to the beef. Mix until blended.
Assembly
  1. Roll out puff pastry to about half a centimeter thick.
  2. Spread the beef mixture evenly across the pastry, leaving a 2 to 3 cm border.
  3. Sprinkle grated mozzarella on top of the filling.
  4. Brush the edges with beaten egg for sealing, then roll up the pastry like a burrito.
  5. Transfer to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper and pierce holes in the top for steam.
Baking
  1. Brush the tops with egg yolk and bake at 220 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes.
  2. Reduce temperature to 180 degrees Celsius and bake for another 25 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

Let turnovers cool slightly before serving. Pair with extra ketchup or dipping sauces. For best results, reheat leftovers in the oven.
