Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a pie plate or a 9-inch springform pan.
  2. In a heat-safe bowl, melt the butter with 2 cups of chocolate chips until smooth, using a double boiler or microwave at 50 percent power.
  3. Allow the melted chocolate and butter mixture to cool slightly.
  4. In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs, sugar, and vanilla for about 3 minutes until pale and fluffy.
  5. Gradually fold in the melted chocolate mixture until fully incorporated.
  6. Gently fold in the flour, baking powder, and salt until just combined.
  7. Add the remaining 1 cup of chocolate chips to the batter.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.
  2. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until the edges are set and the center is softly puffed.
Cooling and Serving
  1. Let the pie cool completely before slicing.
  2. Serve plain or with warm hot fudge, whipped cream, or ice cream.

Notes

For room temperature eggs, allow them to sit out before use. Use high-quality chocolate chips for the best flavor. Consider adding espresso powder to enhance the chocolate flavor without being noticeable. Variations may include nuts or peanut butter swirls.
