Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Toss them with sugar, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice in a large bowl.
- Roll out your pie crust and place it into a 9-inch pie plate.
Assembly
- Fill the crust with the apple mixture and dot the top with butter.
- Lay a second crust on top, seal the edges, and cut slits into the top crust.
- Brush the top with beaten egg and place on a baking sheet.
Baking
- Bake for 15 minutes at 425°F, then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for 35-40 minutes, or until golden.
- Let the pie cool for at least one hour before serving.
Notes
Serve warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. For longer storage, cover and refrigerate for up to a week.
