Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare 9-inch cake pans with cooking spray.
- In a large bowl, combine the cake mix with 1 cup of water, 3 egg whites, and 1/2 cup of vegetable oil. Mix until smooth.
- Split the batter into two bowls. In one bowl, whisk in the strawberry gelatin and in the other, mix in the blue raspberry gelatin.
- Pour the red batter into one pan and the blue batter into the other. Bake for approximately 25 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Allow cakes to cool, then crumble each into separate bowls.
Assembly
- Using a piping bag filled with whipped topping, layer the cake crumbs and whipped topping in mason jars.
- Top with whipped topping and sprinkle with patriotic sprinkles before serving.
Notes
These jars can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Consider using homemade cake from scratch for enhanced flavor, and feel free to add fresh fruit layers for extra freshness. Decorate jars with ribbons or tags for a festive touch.
