Ingredients

  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened Ensure it's at room temperature.
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 unit egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Color and Decoration
  • to taste Food coloring (various colors) To achieve desired colors.
  • as needed Sprinkles (for decoration, optional)

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg, followed by the vanilla and almond extracts.
  5. Gradually mix in the dry ingredients until the dough is smooth.
  6. Divide the dough into portions and add food coloring to each.
Assembly
  1. Roll out each colored dough between sheets of parchment paper into rectangles.
  2. Layer the rolled doughs atop each other, then roll them tightly into a log.
  3. Slice the log into cookies and place each on a baking sheet.
Baking
  1. Bake cookies for 8-10 minutes, until the edges are golden.
  2. Allow cookies to cool on a wire rack before decorating with sprinkles.

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For best results, allow cookies to cool completely before decorating.
