Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit (175 degrees Celsius). Grease and flour a baking pan (8×8 works well).
- Prepare the cake mix according to the package instructions, or use your favorite homemade vanilla cake recipe.
- Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let the cake cool completely.
- Once cool, crumble the cake into small pieces using your hands or a fork. Place the crumbs into a large bowl.
- Add the melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract. Mix until the crumbs come together into a dough-like texture.
- Roll the mixture into small bite-sized balls, about 1 inch in diameter. Arrange them on a lined baking sheet or tray and chill in the fridge for 30 minutes to set.
Glazing
- In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth. Divide the glaze into separate bowls, one for each color.
- Add a few drops of food coloring to each bowl (black, purple, and blue) to create a galaxy effect. If desired, add edible glitter for a shimmering touch.
- Dip each cake bite into the galaxy glaze, coating them completely. Let the excess glaze drip off and place the coated bites back onto the tray.
- Allow the glaze to set for a few minutes. Once set, sprinkle each bite with star-shaped sprinkles or edible stars.
Notes
Chill the cake bites before glazing for better shape retention. Adjust the glaze consistency by adding milk as needed. Use a toothpick to rotate bites while glazing for even coverage.
