Ingredients

Cheese and Coating
  • 400 grams Mozzarella Cheese 16 sticks or about 400 grams
  • 120 grams All Purpose Flour 1 cup or 120 grams
  • 2 large Eggs
  • 200 grams Breadcrumbs 2 cups or 200 grams
  • 50 grams Parmesan Cheese 1/2 cup, grated
  • 2 teaspoons Italian Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Pepper
  • 3 cups Oil for Frying about 3 cups of vegetable oil

Method

Preparation
  1. Prepare the cheese by unwrapping mozzarella sticks or cutting a block into sticks, then freeze for 1 hour.
  2. Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  3. Coat each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, then egg, and finally the breadcrumb mixture, repeating for extra crispiness. Place coated sticks on a tray.
  4. Freeze again for at least 30 minutes.
Cooking
  1. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry sticks in batches for about 2 minutes until golden.
  2. Alternatively, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes or air fry at 390°F (200°C) for 6-7 minutes.

Notes

Serve them straight from the fryer (or oven) with a small bowl of warm marinara for dunking. Add a scattering of chopped basil and extra grated Parmesan for a restaurant-style touch. Great as an appetizer or comfort food.
