Preparation
- Prepare the cheese by unwrapping mozzarella sticks or cutting a block into sticks, then freeze for 1 hour.
- Set up a breading station with flour, beaten eggs, and a mixture of breadcrumbs, Parmesan, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Coat each frozen mozzarella stick in flour, then egg, and finally the breadcrumb mixture, repeating for extra crispiness. Place coated sticks on a tray.
- Freeze again for at least 30 minutes.
Cooking
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C). Fry sticks in batches for about 2 minutes until golden.
- Alternatively, bake at 400°F (200°C) for 8-10 minutes or air fry at 390°F (200°C) for 6-7 minutes.
Notes
Serve them straight from the fryer (or oven) with a small bowl of warm marinara for dunking. Add a scattering of chopped basil and extra grated Parmesan for a restaurant-style touch. Great as an appetizer or comfort food.
