Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract. Cook over low heat until the mixture thickens.
- Lay the phyllo dough in a baking dish, brushing each layer with melted butter.
- Pour the custard over the phyllo layers.
Baking
- Bake in the oven for about 25 to 30 minutes until golden and crispy.
- In the meantime, prepare the sugar syrup by boiling water and sugar together until dissolved.
- Once baked, drizzle the syrup over the cake and allow it to cool before serving.
Notes
Serve dusted with powdered sugar or drizzled with chocolate sauce. Store leftovers covered in the fridge for up to three days. For variations, consider adding citrus zest or spices to the custard.
