For the Cake
  • 1 box vanilla (white) cake mix Use as per box directions.
  • 5 tablespoons butter Melted for the cake.
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, packed For soaking the cake.
  • 3 teaspoons ground cinnamon Gives the cake its flavor.
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons clear vanilla extract Enhances flavor.
  • 14 ounce can sweetened condensed milk Used for the filling.
For the Frosting
  • 8 tablespoons butter, softened For creaminess in the frosting.
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened Main ingredient for frosting.
  • 2 teaspoons clear vanilla extract For flavor.
  • 2 teaspoons half and half To soften the frosting.
  • 2 1/2 cups powdered sugar To achieve desired sweetness.

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F and spray a 9 x 13 baking dish with baking spray.
  2. Prepare the cake as directed on the box.
  3. Allow the cake to cool until slightly warm, then poke holes in the cake with a spoon.
Making the Filling
  1. In a heat-safe bowl, combine the butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, vanilla extract, and sweetened condensed milk.
  2. Heat in the microwave, stirring until smooth, then ladle this mixture over the cake.
Making the Frosting
  1. Cream together the softened butter and cream cheese.
  2. Add vanilla, half and half, and powdered sugar gradually, mixing until smooth.
  3. Spread the frosting over the cake.
  4. Store any leftover frosting in an airtight container.

Notes

For best texture, serve slices at room temperature. Cake can be stored covered in plastic wrap or in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days, or frozen for longer storage.
