  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted Warm but not hot when combined with sugars
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Can substitute with gluten-free blend
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Use high-quality for best flavor
  • 1/2 cup red and green M&Ms Plus extra for topping
  • 1/4 cup Christmas jimmies
  • to taste Christmas sprinkles For final decoration

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8x8-inch square baking pan with melted butter and line with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter, light brown sugar, and granulated sugar until smooth.
  3. Beat in the room temperature egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Gently fold in the flour and salt, mixing until just combined.
  5. Add the chocolate chips, M&Ms, and jimmies to the batter, folding gently to combine.
  6. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top.
  7. Top with remaining M&Ms for decoration.
Baking
  1. Bake for 20 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  2. Allow to cool completely in the pan on a wire rack.
  3. Once cooled, lift the cookies out using the parchment paper and cut into squares.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer storage, freeze them.
