Ingredients

Base Ingredients
  • 1 cup finely crushed vanilla wafers
  • 1 cup finely chopped nuts (walnuts or pecans) Can use a mixture of nuts for added flavor complexity.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar Plus extra for rolling.
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup sweetened condensed milk For a lighter version, substitute half with unsweetened applesauce.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon ground cinnamon

Method

Preparation
  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the crushed vanilla wafers, chopped nuts, powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and ground cinnamon. Stir these dry ingredients gently.
  2. Pour in the sweetened condensed milk and add the vanilla extract. Incorporate the wet ingredients into the dry mix until a soft, cohesive dough forms.
  3. Cover the bowl with a cloth and let the mixture sit for about 30 minutes to deepen the flavors.
  4. Dust your hands with powdered sugar and roll small portions of the dough into balls, about an inch in diameter.
  5. Roll the finished balls in powdered sugar and place them on a decorative plate.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to a week. For longer preservation, refrigerate or freeze them. To enhance the flavor, consider adding a splash of rum or brandy.
