Preparation
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9x3-inch round cake pan; line with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, 1 egg, and 1 stick of melted butter. Stir until well blended.
- Pour the mixture into the prepared pan, gently patting it down, and set aside.
Filling
- In a stand mixer, beat the cream cheese until smooth. Add the remaining 2 eggs and cocoa powder.
- Reducing the mixer to low speed, add the confectioners' sugar and remaining butter, then vanilla. Beat until smooth.
- Pour the filling into the pan over the cake mixture.
Baking
- Bake for 40-50 minutes, until the center is still gooey.
- Let cool on a wire rack before cutting and serving.
Notes
Serve warm with a dusting of confectioners' sugar or a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Store tightly covered for up to 2 days at room temperature or refrigerate for up to 4 days.
