Ingredients

Bread Ingredients
  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups light brown sugar, packed
  • 0.5 cups regular unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon espresso powder
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1.25 cups whole milk at room temperature
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
Topping
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon regular unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground nutmeg
Ganache
  • 11.5 ounces milk chocolate chips 1 bag
  • 3/4 cup heavy whipping cream

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F.
  2. Spray an 8 1/2 x 4 1/2-inch loaf pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. In a spacious mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, brown sugar, cocoa powder, espresso powder, baking powder, and kosher salt.
  4. In a separate bowl, blend the milk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, folding gently until just combined.
Baking
  1. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 60-70 minutes, or until a toothpick emerges with a few moist crumbs.
  2. Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Final Touches
  1. Brush the warm bread with melted butter, then sprinkle the granulated sugar, cocoa powder, and nutmeg mixture over it.
  2. To create the ganache, heat the heavy whipping cream in a saucepan until it simmers. Pour it over the chocolate chips and stir until melted and glossy.
  3. Drizzle the ganache over the cooled bread and let set before serving.

Notes

Store leftover slices in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days, or refrigerate and gently warm in the microwave. For variations, consider adding chopped nuts or a swirl of peanut butter into the batter.
