Ingredients
  

For the base
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 stick butter (8 tablespoons)
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips For melting
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
For the toppings
  • 10 oz jar of maraschino cherries (drained and cut in half)
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 3/4 cup sweetened condensed milk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit and lightly spray a 9 by 13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. In a large bowl, mix together the flour, sugar, salt, baking powder, and cocoa powder.
  3. Melt the butter and 1/4 cup chocolate chips together in the microwave, stirring until smooth.
  4. Combine the melted butter mixture with the eggs and vanilla, then fold into the dry ingredients.
  5. Press the batter firmly into the bottom of the prepared baking dish.
  6. Scatter halved cherries on top of the batter, followed by semi-sweet chocolate chips.
  7. Drizzle the sweetened condensed milk over the layers.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 28 to 30 minutes or until the edges are golden brown.
  2. Allow to cool and set overnight before cutting into bars.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature for several days; refrigerating will prolong freshness, but allow to come to room temperature before serving. Experiment with different types of cherries or add nuts for added texture.
