Preparation
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch baking pan with butter or oil.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa, baking powder, and salt until uniform.
- Stir in the milk, melted butter, and vanilla until smooth. Pour the batter into the prepared pan.
- Mix brown sugar and cocoa for the topping and evenly sprinkle over the batter.
- Pour hot water or coffee over the top without stirring.
Baking
- Bake for 35-40 minutes until the top is set and edges are bubbly.
- Let cool for 10 minutes and sprinkle with flaky sea salt if desired.
Notes
Serve with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a sprinkle of toasted pistachios. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
