Ingredients
  

For the buns
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 cup diced apples (peeled and cored)
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
For the crumble topping
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
For the sweet glaze
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix the milk, melted butter, and egg. Add this mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
  4. Fold in the diced apples gently.
  5. In a separate bowl, beat the cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
Assembly
  1. Take small portions of the dough and flatten them in your hand.
  2. Place a spoonful of the cream cheese mixture in the center and fold the dough around it to form a bun.
  3. Place each bun on a greased baking sheet.
Topping and Baking
  1. For the crumble topping, mix oats, brown sugar, flour, and softened butter in a bowl. Sprinkle this mixture over the buns.
  2. Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
Glazing
  1. For the glaze, mix the powdered sugar with milk until smooth. Drizzle it over the buns once they are slightly cooled.

Notes

Serve warm or at room temperature. Best enjoyed with coffee or tea, or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Store in an airtight container for up to three days.
