Ingredients
  

For the Almond Bars
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter, room temperature Ensure it's at room temperature for best results.
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1/2 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 tablespoon milk For brushing on top.
  • 1/2 cup sliced almonds To be sprinkled on top before baking.
For the Icing
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tablespoons milk To create the desired drizzling consistency.
  • 1/4 teaspoon almond extract

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).
  2. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In a separate mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add in the egg and almond extract, blending until combined.
  5. Slowly incorporate dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  6. Press the dough into the bottom of a greased 9×13 pan, smoothing it out.
  7. Brush a little milk on top and sprinkle sliced almonds on the top.
Baking
  1. Bake for 18-20 minutes or until the edges turn golden.
  2. Cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then cut into bars and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
Icing
  1. Mix powdered sugar with milk until achieving desired drizzling consistency.

Notes

Serve these bars alongside coffee or tea, or package them as delightful gifts. They store well in an airtight container for up to a week.
