Ingredients

  • 1 packet active dry yeast (2¼ teaspoons)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm water (100-110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water with a pinch of sugar and yeast. Let it sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture, mixing with a spoon before kneading by hand.
  3. Knead the dough for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm spot for 1-2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Shape the dough into a loaf or rounds and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Preheat a heavy-bottomed pan on low-medium heat for about 5 minutes.
  7. Place the dough in the pan, cover with a lid, and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes. Flip and cook for an additional 10-15 minutes.
  8. Check for doneness by tapping the bottom for a hollow sound.

Notes

Use a trivet or heat diffuser to avoid direct contact with high heat and ensure even cooking. Cover the lid with a towel if needed to absorb excess moisture.
